Why is Alcohol so much more socially accepted compared to Weed?

Because weed was always seen as an "evil" and "dangerous" drug. The government basically ran a smear campaign against it because they could not tax it like alcohol. Also not many people over 70 ever tried weed because it did not get popular among the young until the 60's.
